Matthew Oliver - Art and Culture Award
School: Tawa College
Aged: 14
Receiving an Art and Culture Award for his musical achievements. Matthew has gained outstanding results for piano and has made a huge contribution to music and drama at school
  Jeremy Watson - Sport Award
School: Aotea College
Aged: 13
Is a member of the Western Suburbs Football Club and is recognised for his achievements as goalkeeper for the Wellington Ferderation Talent Centre and the NZ National Talent Centre and will be playing in Europe with the Capital Kaizen Academy squad
  Te Punawai Hotu - Education Award
School: Te Kura Maori o Porirua
Aged: 14
Is recognised for her high academic, sporting and cultural achievements including Maori speech competitions, Kapahaka, Waka Ama and Iron Maori
  Sariah Penese - Sport Award 
School: St Mary's College
Aged: 13
Is commended for her sporting achievements including representing New Zealand in basketball and being a Wellington U15 netball representative
  Victoria Faraimo - Education Award
School: Porirua College
Aged: 17
Highly commended for her educational achievements and leadership roles at Porirua College. Victoria plans to study law at Victoria University next year
  Corey Fuimaono - Community and Environmental work Award
School: Aotea College
Aged: 17
Corey is a UN Youth high school ambassador, a member of JustSpeak - contributing his film and media skills to the youth justice cause, and in 2013 was a youth Member of Parliament
  Camilla Time-Taotua - Sport Award
School: Porirua College
Aged: 17
Recognised for her sporting achievements. In 2013 Camilla captained the NZ junior woman's volleyball team in the USA and she is also a Wellington Rugby Union secondary schools girls representative
  Jessica Cameron - Education Award 
School: Aotea College
Aged: 17
Highly commended for her educational achievements. Having NCEA level 1 & 2 endoresed with excellence, Jessica's goal is to attend Otago University and to become a doctor
  Laura Goodman - Education Award
School: Wellington Girls College
Aged: 17
Recognised for her academis excellence and leadership roles. Laura has achieved NCEA level 2 with five subject endorsements with excellence. Laura plans to undertake a co-joint degree of Engineering and Accounting at Canterbury University
  Anna Thomson - Sport Award 
School: Aotea College
Aged: 18
Member of the Mana Athletics Club and has achieved NCEA levels 1 & 2 endorsed with excellence while she also manages rigorous competitions at national and international triple jumps events gaining 2nd place in the open women at the Oceania Regional Champs in Tahiti
  Leonardo Coghini - Music Award
School: Kapiti College
Aged: 16
Recognised for his excellence in music. Leonardo excels in Jazz but is also a highly talented classical musician and composer. He has won multiple awards and has been selected as sole pianist for the NZ Youth Jazz Orchestra

Received a Community Award. Joanna is a 2013 World Vision Ambassador (one of only 3 in New Zealand).

Aged: 13
Is a member of the Port Nicholson Poneke cycling club and was recognised for his outstanding achievements in cross country and downhill mountain biking.
  Grant Hawthorne - Environmetal & Community work 
School: Aotea College
Aged: 18
Received a Community Award for his work with Canteen - helping 13-24 year olds living with cancer.
  Marama Elkington - Sport 
School: Mana College
Aged: 14
Is a member of Aniuwaru ki Porirua Waka Ama Roopu Inc Junior 16 women's team and achieved outstanding results at the 2012 worlds waka ama sprints competition in Calgary, Canada.
  Adair Houia-Ashwell - Education 
School: St Mary's College
Aged: 18
Has been recognised for her academic excellence and leadership roles, including involvement in a number of sporting and extracurricular activities.
  Fa'aolataga Tau - Sport 
School: St Patricks College
Aged: 13
Is a member of Titahi Bay Amateur Athletics club and, along with his brother, has dominated regional and national competitions specialising in sprint events including the 100m, 300m and relay.
  Nadine Houia-Ashwell - Education 
School: St Mary's College
Aged: 18
Has been recognised for her academic excellence and leadership roles, including involvement in a number of sporting and extracurricular activities.
  Mihi Banks - Sport 
School: Bishop Viard College
Aged: 15
Is a member of the Victoris Motor cycle club where she won 2011 Rookie of the Year trophy. In a male dominated sport she ia regularly on the podium.
  Angus Dreaver - Art & Culture 
School: Kapiti College
Aged: 17
Received an Art and Culture Award for his achievements as a film maker. Angus has received several awards and has created short advertisements to raise awareness for the 40 hour famine and the global food crisis.
  Mafutaga Tau - Sport 
School: St Patrick College
Aged: 13

2011 AWARD WINNERS
Katie McAndrew - Sport
School: Bishop Viard College
Aged: 16
Talent: Softball
Achievement: Katie has played for the Porirua City Softball Club since 5 years of age and in 2011 she won the Young Sportswoman Award for the 3rd year running and the Premier Women most valuable player award. In 2010 to 2011 season Katie represented Wellington in both the U17 and U19’s national tournaments as well as the NZ Junior White Sox and the NZ development team.
Goal: Katie plans to use her award to help cover representative costs and buy some new playing gear.
Leonardo Coghini - Arts & Culture
School: Kapiti College
Aged: 14
Talent: He is an extremely talented composer and a highly accomplished pianist
Achievement: Leonardo has attained a number of outstanding awards including achieving NCEA level 1 in Music with excellence whilst in year 9. In 2009 Leonardo successfully auditioned to study at the prestigious New Zealand School of Music Young Musicians Programme, classical piano and then again in 2010 with the Jazz Piano. Being awarded most outstanding keyboard player at the Tauranga’s National Jazz Festival 2011 has been a highlight of his career thus far
Goal: Leonardo aims to use the award to attend the 2012 World Choir Games in the USA and wishes to continue to pursue a career in music performance and teaching
Morgan Evans - Education
School: Aotea College
Aged: 18
Talent: Education
Achievement: As well as being Deputy Head Boy, Morgan has been awarded the top scholar at Aotea College for four years in a row, achieved NCEA level 1 and 2 endorsed with excellence as well as the Charles Beckett Cup for excellence in Year 12 Mathematics. Morgan is an all rounder combining academic success with achievements in sport and extra-curricular activities including 1st XV rugby team and 1st XI cricket team, singer in barbershop chorus and in acting in school productions
Goal: Morgan intends to use his youth award towards his study for a Bachelor of Arts in conjunction with a Bachelor of Law at Victoria University in 2012.
Jordan Ngatai - Sport
School: Mana College
Aged: 18
Talent: Basketball
Achievement: Jordan has represented New Zealand at all age groups, including selection in the New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks which played in Germany in 2010 and the NZ team for the FIBA World Championship qualification series against Australia. He is in the starting lineup for both the Junior Tall Blacks in 2010 and the New Zealand Under 20 team in 2011. Over the last 2 years he has been named in the NZ Under 21 tournament team as a 17 & 18 year old, no other athlete has achieved this. Jordan was one of only two players from New Zealand selected to attend the Nike Borders Without Boundaries tournament in China, and one of three NZ players selected to attend Adidas Nations Tournament in the USA. 2010 Jordan was awarded the Wellington Secondary Schools Basketball Athelete of the year award.
Goal: Jordan is working towards securing a scholarship to play college basketball in the USA in 2012 and hopes to eventually become a professional basketball player representing his country and playing in the NBA
 
 
 

 
 
Tara Mackle - Sport
School: Kapiti College
Aged: 16
Talent: Archery
Achievement: Tara has been involved in Archery since age 11. Her achievements have exceeded expectations with breaking New Zealand records for her age group and winning both local and national competitions. Her latest achievements include winning her cadet recurve division in both the Archery New Zealand outdoor nationals and more recently, the indoors 2011 nationals competition
Goal: Tara’s dream is to be a part of the New Zealand Junior Development Team and qualify for the World Youth Games in 2013
 
Ihaia Ropata - Sport
School: Rangikura School
Aged: 13
Talent: Sport displaying leadership skills
Achievement: Ihaia is an all-rounder, involved in several school sporting teams and is a highly skilled and valued member of both the Senior A Basketball and Hockey teams. As the only representative from Porirua, Ihaia has been selected in Wellington’s Under 13 representative squad and has shown outstanding talent in his ability on the hockey field
Goal: Ihaia has aspirations to become a professional hockey player. He intends to use his award for representative hockey costs and a new stick
 
Dalton Wilkins - Sport
School: Papakowhai School
Aged: 12
Talent: achievements in both soccer and running
Achievement: Dalton is part of the Western Suburbs football team that has been undefeated for 4 years. Dalton won a scholarship for a 3-day Ricki Herbert training academy and was also selected for the New Zealand Under 12 squad in the Shane Rufer School of Football tour to Japan, where he was awarded player of the International Junior Asian Cup tournament. He has also represented Wellington at the National Schools Cross Country meets over the past three years
Goal: Dalton is eager to continue on the path to football greatness and aims to represent New Zealand in the Under 17’s World Cup in 2015. He intends to use his award to attend upcoming tournaments and talent programmes
 

Tram Ly - Education
School: Mana College
Aged: 18
Talent: Education
Goal: Tram has been awarded the top student Award, for her year at Mana College in the last four years running. In 2010 she was awarded the Aldred Cup for Excellence in Year 12 Mathematics. She has consisently achieved outstanding merit and excellence results and displays an outstanding work ethic 

Achievements: Tram intends to use her award to complete a conjoint Bachelor degree in Commerce and Administration and Science at Victoria University and has aspirations to pursue a career in Forensic Science
 
Jannah Hibberd - Environmental & Community
School: Aotea College
Aged: 17
Talent: Outstanding achievements and contributions in the community
Achievement: Jannah is also recognised as a high academic achiever and for her role as head girl at Aotea College she has been a leader and influential team member of the Hosanna Baptist Church’s Blaze Youth Ministry programme over the past two years. Jannah has had a positive influence on others through empowering young people with the skills needed to succeed in life and being hands-on with organising events, camps, implementing programmes and training her peers and other youth.
Goal: In 2012 she hopes to travel with family to learn how a missionary organisations is assisting with poverty of oppressed and misplaced families on the border of Myanmar and Thailand
 
 
Shanti Brown - Environmental & Community
School: Bishop Viard College
Aged: 18
Talent: Shanti is a mentor with STARS – a New Zealand Youth Development initiative that works with Year 9 students and is actively involved in her local church community. Her compassionate personality and willingness to assist those less fortunate has seen her travelling to Manilla to work with a family living in the slums. Shanti is also recognised for her role as head girl at Bishop Viard College and for her diligence and academic success
Goal: Shanti has a passion to study theology and to continue to add value to our community and serve the people around her. 
 
Ruby Ng Lam - Arts & Culture
School: Porirua College
Aged: 17
Talent: Art & Culture
Goal: Ruby is a strong leader and talented public speaker while also excelling academically with numerous awards across a range of subjects. She is a talented public speaker having consistently won both regional and national awards. She has won the Samoan Speech competition for the Wellington region two years running and in 2010 also won the national competition
Achievements: She plans to use her award to study Commerce at Victoria University majoring in Accounting and Economics
 
Apirana Skipworth - Education
School: Porirua College
Aged: 18
Talent: Education
Achievement: As a dedicated student, peer mentor, prefect and a member of the AFS Pasifika Porirua Chapter, Apirana has received a number of awards including the Highest Academic Award for Year 12 and excellence in English. As well as his academic achievements he has won awards for excellence in debating and was the winner of the Year 12 Speech Competition. He was the recipient of a JENESYS scholarship to Japan in 2009 and this year he received the AFS Pasifika scholarship to travel to Argentina for 5 months
Goal: He intends to use his award to assist with his studies towards medicine at Otago University in 2012
 
TJ Misa - Arts & Culture
School: Porirua College
Aged: 17
Talent: Performing Arts
Achievement: From year 11 to 13, TJ has achieved academic excellence in Drama. His ability as a performer in acting, mime, dance and improvisation are extremely high as it is shown in his success in the 2011 “The Young and Hungry Festival”. When TJ was 16 he was selected from over 150 applicants to perform in the production “Disorder” at the Bats theatre. The quality of his acting was extremely high due to his hard work and sacrifice   
Goal: He intends to use his award towards fees for the performing arts programme at Whitireia Polytechnic in 2012

Asaph Verner - Arts & Culture
Age: 16
Talent: Classical musician, playing both the violin and piano
Goal: Asaph aims to audition at the Cleveland and the Curtis Institutes of Music and the Julliard School of Music
Achievement: He has performed at many events including being Soloist with the Nelson Symphony and gained 1st placings in the following competions: Wellington District chamber music contest; Hutt Valley performing arts competition; Sonata Celebration

 

Fuatino Malo Siolo  - Arts & Culture
Age: 16
School: Tawa College - Year 11
Talent: Classical musician, playing both the violin, viola and is an accomplished singer
Goal: Fuatino aims to be re-selected for the NZ choir
Achievement: She was one of the youngest students to be selected for the NZ secondary student’s choir and the only student from Porirua. Fuatino has achieved honours in music and she was also selected to play a leading role in the Malaga Production in 2010 as well as many other significant local events 

 

 Dominic Wooldridge - Sport
Age: 11
School: Hutt International Boys School - Year 7
Talent: Football
Goal: Dominic has been invited tour Japan where he will play in the 22nd Asian Cup
Achievement: Some of his achievements for 2010 include winners of the capital football 11th grade junior promo league for western suburbs, winner of the national futsal championships in Napier and represented capital football 12th grade Federation team in Taupo.  Dominic plays football at the highest club level for his age and is about to start the 2nd season in the Wellington Federation Talent Centre where he is playing a year up

 

 Enoch Tautolo - Education
Age: 12
School: Windley School
Goal: Enoch will be attending St Patrick's College in Wellington in 2011; the award will help toward Enoch's fees and school uniform
Achievement: In 2008 and 2009 he received the “Set for life” School trophy for showing leadership and displaying a high level of learning in all areas of school. He has been captain of his Porirua Vikings team for the last 4 years and is the current captain of the Wellington Orcas U12s team

 

 Jesse Jing-Mather - Education
Age: 18
School: Bishop Viard College - Year 13
Goal: He plans to use the award for his tertiary studies at WELTEC. It will go towards fees for his automotive engineering course.
Achievement: Deputy Head boy for 2010, Year 12 - 1st in chemistry, mathematics, graphics and he received the Year 12 diligence award

 

 Tessa Kate McPherson - Sport
Age: 17
School: Aotea College
Talent: Football
Goal: Tessa goal is to gain a scholarship at an American university and become a professional footballer
Achievement: In 2009 she represented NZ in the U17’s women's national league and in 2010 she was selected for the NZ football U17’s women’s national team to tour Australia

 

 Rheilli Uluilelata - Sport
Age: 13
School: Wellington East Girls College - Year 9
Talent: Hockey
Goal: Rheilli's dream is to become the first Samoan to play in the New Zealand Black Sticks
Achievement: In 2010 Rheilli was class captain and received the Dean's Award for Leadership, she was also selected for the first XI hockey team at year 9. Rheilli was awarded Most Valuable Player at the National Hockey hockey tournament in Hawkes Bay for U15a reps (when Rheilli was only 13 years old)
 

 Leesa Lealaisalanoa - Sport
Age: 17
School: St Mary’s College - Year 12
Talent: Athletics - Shot Put and Discus
Goal: 2010 to win at the NZ secondary school athletic champs in Hastings, NZ athletics nationals in Dunedin and the Australian junior champs in Sydney
Achievement: In 2010 she was the New Zealand U16 and U19 discus champion and U16 Shot-put champion. She placed 15th at the World Junior Championships held in Canada.  Leesa was recently selected as Porirua's Premier Sport Person of the Year

 

 Perumi Tauiliili - Hekia Parata Special Award
Age: 13
School: Brandon Intermediate - Year 8
Talent: She is talented in sport - Perumi excels in netball, flag rugby and track events for athletics, Perumi has shown that she also has a talent in the arts
Goal: When Perumi grows up she would like to be a commercial artist, the funds will go toward purchasing a computer and software for Perumi's design and art work
